This is probably the 2nd best in the series I've seen so far, under 28 Up. 42 Up covers every issue, whether its class, race, religion, occupation, etc. Many of the peoples parents have died in this one and whats great about this film is that you finally start to see the impact the films, themselves have had on the children, or I should say adults, now. Bruce has taken Neil in for a while, and while Neil is still on welfare, he's taken an interest in politics and is an activist. A lot of the adults are really settled into their adulthood and parenthood in this film and are making positive contributions to their family and society. Of course, not everyone is as engaging to watch. Some seem like they haven't changed much at all in the past 20 years, but I guess that's how some people are. 42 Up is great, in that not only does it focus on the adults, but we get to see more of the people in their lives and landscapes, etc. of where they are living. It's a beautifully filmed and probably the best filmed of the series thus far.

:fresh: What a great film. Thoughtful, provacative, insightful, charming, a little sad at times, some humor. A wonderful human and humane film. Should be required viewing in our own schools showing kids that they will grow up and life will happen.

This is the first in the Up series that I've watched. It felt kinda draggy sometimes, largely because it feels like something that lends itself more to being watched in little chunks, rather than all in one go (given the lack of a coherent narrative and all), and because I watched it while on a bus and suffering from a bruised coccyx. That said, I certainly want to see the next (and previous) entries in the series. What a fascinating project! (Also, I am in love with Bruce.)

And now we enter into middle-age. I can't help but wondering where I'll find myself in the next decade. On one hand, there's huge successes. Yet on the other, there's tiny victories only starting to take place. Neil, for one, and Bruce for another, both provide rather stunning transformations at a rather late point in life.
