Zelary (2003)

A nurse and her surgeon-lover are part of a resistance movement in 1940s Czechoslovakia. When they are discovered, her lover flees and she must find a place to hide. A patient whose life she saved, a man from a remote mountain village where time stopped 150 years ago, agrees to hide her as his wife.

This story is a beautiful love story in disguise. Within all of the intrigue and disguises, something blossoms between Joza and Eliska. The setting, costuming, writing- everything is wonderful and engaging.

I loved this movie...such a strange love story but I agree it was heartwarming. I thought about it for days after I watched it. I would definately recommend it to anyone who likes history and foreign films :)

I feel like the plot is wore-out terrerity but this film still works. Nothing in the plot is new or dramatic until the last half hour, and there are moments where you're bored, but you keep watching and slowly warm up to the film due to the acting and art direction. For all else it seems very real in the simple little town full of believalbe people so finally when something does happen you care more than you thought. It is almost a case of to little to late but not quite. The male lead along with Anna his wife do hold this film together. Most other actors and this would be a boring unwatchable Masterpiece Theater film, but thier chemisty shine through. Overall worth seeing but I would add if you're looking of a Czech film go older with "Closely Watched Trains" or "Loves a Blonde" while if its a WWII film go "Shop On Main ST".

Well done film that reminded me a lot of the movie "Sweet Land" and the french film "Strayed". The lead actress reminded me of a red headed Gweneth Paltrow. :-)
