One of Miike's lesser outings is still quite watchable with a great performance by the always reliable Aikawa. And you gotta love his theme song.

Si on decortique le film, on retrouve de nombreux emprunts faits autant a des films de science fiction qu'a des series televisees d'invasion extra-terrestre ou de super-heros. D'une certaine maniere on pourrait dire que Zebraman est un film typiquement japonais par la maniere qu'a Takashi Miike de raconter l'histoire d'un super-heros tres proche de tout ceux que les innombrables mangaka on pu faire naitre et que le cinema et la television n'ont eu de cesse de mettre en mouvement. Avec Zebraman, Takashi Miike livre une vision kitsch et authentique du film de super-heros en reactualisant les codes d'un genre tres a la mode ces temps-ci avec les nombreuses adaptations cinematographiques de comics americains tels que Spiderman, Batman, Hulk, Les Xmen, Daredevil ou Superman. Un film qui peut laisser perplexe mais finit par s'apprecier en particulier grace a une certaine dose d'humour que le realisateur sait distiller dans ses realisations.

Less transgressive that some Miike, this is more of his softer side as a put upon teacher assumes the role of a superhero and begins to fight the aliens that are menacing his town. Fun stuff, dodgy CGI and a lighter tone make this a nice change of pace. Give it a rental.
