The stories themselves are pretty run of the mill, and left me unsatisfied. There's really no new territory here. However, the stop motion scenes in between each story are brilliant, and very nicely done!

Most of the short films in "XX" are bad. Like, really bad. Lacking in premise, purpose and cohesion. They don't offer much of a feminist angle, unless you count having a female protagonist as such, and they don't offer anything whatsoever to warrant the existence of this anthology film. Even the wraparound offers literally nothing to the overall experience. The only short with any merit is Karyn Kusama's entry, "Her Only Living Son", which is a sort of "what if" pseudo-sequel to "Rosemary's Baby". The premise and its slight winks to that other film are good (though not nearly clever enough) but the ending misses the mark.

The 1st segment doesn't lend itself too well to a visual narrative (it would probably be more satisfying as a short story in a book), the 2nd is more black comedy than horror (but I look forward to seeing what St. Vincent does next), the 3rd kind of zips by fast, and the 4th kind of drags. Wildly uneven but ultimately a good time.

O longa na verdade é constituído por quatro curtas, produzidos, escritos e dirigidos por mulheres. Algumas delas são famosas, como St. Vincent que produziu trilhas sonoras para muitos filmes, Karyn Kusama que dirigiu "Garota Infernal" e Roxanne Benjamin que produziu a série de longas com curtas "VHS". Todas as histórias são diferentes entre si, com tons distintos, e caminhando do terror slasher até o humor negro e ironia. Os dois primeiros são bons, o terceiro é ok e o quarto não sei o que pensar ainda.
