Former cop-turned-bar owner Kwok and his underachieving half-brother befriends a drunken woman, they soon find themselves targeted by both her former lover, a high-powered attorney, and the gangster he employs. The crisscrossing pursuers and pesky police suggest a watered-down version of the treacheries in “City on Fire.” But the cluttered, unfolding dynamism of Mr. Lam’s action scenes remains resilient when gunplay or knife fights are thrust into street life.

Centers on a botched attempted kidnapping conveniently involving 2 law abiding brothers of Kwok T man who's an ex-police officer and Kwok siu-Hung who works as a cabbie pitting them against the wannabe kidnappers of their next potential female victim who would then turn to be a love interest.

Fans will be thrilled that the auteur hasn't missed a beat with Wild City, although he appears to be making the same concessions to the Chinese market as his contemporaries.

From the director of such entertaining pictures such as City on Fire, Prison on Fire, and Twin Dragons comes...this? Wild City has a solid cast, but no story. A drunken woman is in trouble after fighting back a rape attempt in a drug deal, and is pursued by out of town thugs. A former cop turned bar owner and his brother must help her, full of sloppy chases and vague themes. The movie feels like its heart is not in it, and overall its a very generic crime thriller with very little suspense or thrills.

This is a film noir that is, despite some jittery, Tony Scott-esque action sequences, so cool, that you will leave it begging for a sequel.
