Why We Fight (2005)

Is American foreign policy dominated by the idea of military supremacy? Has the military become too important in American life? Jarecki's shrewd and intelligent polemic would seem to give an affirmative answer to each of these questions.

Brilliantly executed and immensely watchable. Even if you're not into history or politics, you should see this film.

I thought it was a really interesting watch, and while I don't necessarily agree with the general liberal theme that seems to be presented in it, they make some damn good points. Very interesting for a documentary.

Excellent documentary framed around Eisenhower's farewell address...perhaps the most disquieting thing is that even those who agree with the current occupation of Iraq can't really say why we're there. Makes the case that the U.S. has been a war nation since at least the beginning of Cold War, and that the U.S. fights not out of lofty ideals such as freedom or democracy but simply to maintain economic and political power.

FUKCING great documentary about America and the stranglehold that the military-industrial congressional complex (Ike's original term, before he modified it to save face with his buddies in Congress) has on our foreign policy. Every American that gives a sh*t needs to see this film. This film shows that democracy and capitalism often don't run parallel and sometimes we have to choose which one is more important to us. Since the cold war, we've consistently chosen the latter. I don't know about you, but I like Ike.
