A delightfully unique movie that celebrates cinema and reminds us of the fragility of art. But, of course, art is a reflection of us, so we too must be as fragile as movie. This movie reminds that life is indeed like a movie. I really enjoyed all the direct and indirect reference to classic cinema, espcially the French masters.

The Japanese propensity for faithful imitation is the focus of Yanagimachi's film, and, most of all, the imitation of life through the cinema.

this was a good movie but the ending didn't really make any sense.

this movie is like an inside joke. its best enjoyed if you know what they're talking about. the movie heavily references the films "death in venice" and "a story of adele h," camus' "the stranger," and french new wave films. i was only familiar with "the stranger" and new wave, but i still really liked this movie. the camera work is really interesting, the characters are funny and real (and well acted), and the ending is a disturbing yet satisfying mindfuck. i also loved the tense music used throughout the film. there's a great scene where two characters converse and ominous orchestra music plays in the background. the camera pans up behind them to show students on different levels of the building playing their instruments, the source of the song. good movie.
