Lorna Tucker's thoroughgoing documentary deals with the punk years, the opening of the famous World's End shop and the Sex Pistols but also offers a far broader perspective on its subject.

I accept that she was popular, and am even willing to take on faith that her work is brilliant. But I would have liked to know why it's brilliant.

A gloriously eccentric one-off and a fashion original, she is an entertaining subject for this watchable documentary.

Among the film's most fascinating scenes are experts talking through the historical importance of her signature pieces, which is a shame given the amount of access the director had to her subject.

There are many words that you can use to describe Ms. Westwood (born 1941), an early punk rock tastemaker and merchandizer turned global couture brand. Boring certainly is not one of them. And as the movie jumps from past to present, from street to palace, from the Sex Pistols to Queen Elizabeth II, Ms. Westwood’s claim sounds increasingly strange and borderline ridiculous.
