Viva Riva! (2010)

Riva is a small time operator who has just returned to his hometown of Kinshasa, Congo after a decade away with a major score: a fortune in hijacked gasoline. There's a ton of stuff going on in "Viva Riva!" but it's always willing to pause for a steamy sex scene.

As gut-punch storytelling, Viva Riva! delivers much, not the least of which is the promise of an exciting new filmmaking talent.

missed it at sxsw but finally got to see it, its definitely a well made involving action thriller, albeit quite brutal at times, i just found the "hero", Riva, just so unlikable, I wasnt rooting for him, I even kinda hoped he got caught, and I didnt understand why people kept helping him or why he always got out of these jams with blind luck, but regardless I was still entertained by it

It takes from American gangster classics ("White Heat" and both "Scarface" films come to mind) but its unique setting and underlying themes give it distinction.
