Virunga in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is Africa's oldest national park, a UNESCO world heritage site, and a contested ground among insurgencies seeking to topple the government that see untold profits in the land. Among this ongoing power struggle, Virunga also happens to be the last natural habitat for the critically endangered mountain gorilla. The only thing standing in the way of the forces closing in around the gorillas: a handful of passionate park rangers and journalists fighting to secure the park's borders and expose the corruption of its enemies. I really enjoyed this movie. It opened my eyes on what's going on in other countries with wildlife. There should be something maybe the United Nations maybe could do to help. Possibly provide aide and support for the wildlife park rangers against the rebels. What the oil company is doing isn't fair to the people who live there and the animals as well. Like the man said the oil is temporary but the nature and wildlife will be sustained for generations and it is vital to preserve it.

Humans will destroy earth for money. If they had their way there would be no planet left. Great documentary on the troubles in Congo, trying to product the wildlife park from oil production. It is so sad that oil and money means more to some people than nature and other people's lives. This is why I am vegan. Humans are a disgrace to planet earth. The gorillas are so lovely I really hope they stay protected.

Ressources are more a curse than a blessing! Extraordinary documentary about a national park caught in between greedy oil exploration company, Congolese rebels and crooked politicians! The events unfolding could have been enough to fill a dozen of action and drama movies with drama, heroes, villains and gorillas. A must see!

11/14/14 Netflix 2015 Academy Award Nominee A beautifully shot, beautifully told story that shows the courage and dedication of a small group of people striving to save the ecologically imperative Virunga Preserve. It also tells the story of political corruption, military depredation and corporate greed that puts all of it at risk. A terrific film and one that hopefully helps save Virunga.

Essential viewing to everyone who is outraged by poaching of endangered species in Africa. What drives this? Greed, of course. And it's only getting worse. Oil has been found under the forest. How long will these endangered species survive? Watch.
