Mopey and overlong period piece that suggests stodgy PBS and BBC literary adaptations, Frank Van Passel's "Villa Des Roses" is yet another complicated, mostly English-lingo international coproduction rich in high-priced production values, but devoid of substance.

Outside of Delpy, Henderson, and to some extent even Walter and West, "Villa Des Roses" is the worst kind of indifferent feeling one can have toward a movie.
