A sharp comedic take on the vampire mythos that is to me like a darkly funny version of George Romero's "Martin". The film follows a young yuppie (Nicholas Cage, during the era in his career where he was known for strong unhinged performances and not the horrible camp performances he's known for today) after he goes to bed with a female vampire and wakes up believing he is now one of the undead. The key to the humor is is in the fact that Cage is not really a vampire, but wholly believes he indeed is. This leads to inspired comic moments with Cage showing outrageous behavior despite the audience knowing he is just delusional and not a real vampire. This leads to a smart commentary on the vampire film, which is even more perfect in the genre's oversaturated times. A fun addition to the vampire film, with that bizarre 80's charm that makes it highly watchable.

A great movie (one of only 3 or 4 Nicolas Cage films I like) I am almost certain this film, along with 10 to Midnight inspired the character of Patrick Bateman.

This film is insane. Not only is it a disheartening story of someone going slowly insane and no one cares to help him, it's actually a comedy which is also insane but it features Nicolas Cage in one of his most unhinged roles to date. Many tout his performance as over the top. However, with a character that's going insane who's to judge what's over the top and what's not? The story, as a whole, goes nowhere; it just shows Peter's decent into madness and how it increases everyday. The way it develops is quite believable and the whole, is he or isn't he a vampire is played out quite well, also. To be honest, it's a good film. Sometimes you despise Peter and yet you wish someone would just put him out of his misery.

Nicholas Cage's best performance of his career, bar none.

A serious movie that Nicolas Cage turned into a comedy. Great laughs!
