Ushpizin (2004)

In Jerusalem's orthodox neighborhoods, it's Succoth, seven days celebrating life's essentials in a sukkah, a temporary shack of both deprivation and hospitality. A devout couple, Moshe and Mali, married nearly five years and childless, are broke and praying for a miracle...

A very good work. Normally moving plot. Great acting. Opens up a bit about the world of the Orthodox community in Jerusalem not to be as dirty and disgusting as everyone says it is (its not true, Ive been there many times). Definitely one of those foreign films that are worth watching

Although I find it difficult to believe that any Israeli would accidentally retrieve an etrog in place of a lemon for salad (on Succot especially), I still loved this movie. Heartwarming and special.

Very good; very israeli. I would only recommend it for those who don't need constant action in their films, and even then, may want some knowledge of Hasidism and/or possibly Middle Eastern culture.maybe not, though! Pretty entertaining and funny throughout as well. And, oh, such a funny but sad conclusion! Those who haven't seen it will probably never guess it, either.

Terrific movie. If you don't know anything about it, it may help to do just a little background research into Succos. Shuli Rand's character is a true tzaddik, his wife's character is just as much a tzadikess. It is a very touching movie about a religious couple who is down on their luck. Some acquaintances from his prior life (he wasn't always religious) come to visit and it isn't clear if his mazel is changing for the better, or worse...

Well acted, edited, and filmed. A realistic view into the thought processes of the deeply religious and the basic issues of faith, trust, and stress they still have to contend with. Rare to see an Israeli film that does not portray religious people in a vehemently negative way. Clearly a breakthrough for the Israeli film industry. To learn that the lead actress had never acted in film or stage in the past was startling given her strong performance. I watched secular viewers leaving the theater stunned, overwhelmed and with tears on their faces. The power of good cinema is intense.
