Fascinating if for no other reason than to make you aware that such a macabre counterculture exists.

Talking heads are overused in documentaries, but in this case a dose of perspective, a point of view or two, would have a gone a long way toward turning a pageant of unreliable voices and morbid images into a portrait of the artists and their deadly scene as something more than misunderstood.

Very gripping at times, I am happy about the casting so to speak. The fact that they went with some of the most important profiles of the beginning of the Black Metal "movemenst" and not just toss in Shagrath and Gaahl. I had a few "I didnt know that"-moments and the music is very well chosen. If you have any interest at all in the art form of Black Metal you should watch this film, preferably in the dark and with some ciggarettes.

Intense stuff. "Enlightening" (ha!) film about the Norwegian Black Metal scene. Surprising rapport and access to the key controversial figures of the scene really magnify the stories they share. Highly recommended.
