U.N. Me (2012)

Documentary filmmaker Ami Horowitz takes us on a brutal tour of a number of places where the UN has intervened. Through interviews with those involved - some of whom wish to remain anonymous - and archive footage, he uncovers facts about manifest abuses and scandals surrounding UN missions and personnel. Such as a "forgotten" shooting in Côte d'Ivoire, during which UN soldiers opened fire on unarmed demonstrators. Or the "Oil for Food" program in Iraq, which resulted in the wrong people reaping the benefits. Horowitz also addresses the harrowing case of the UN soldiers who stood by, powerless, during the genocide in Rwanda.

A must see for all around the world. The U.N. representatives need to be held accountable for their actions & responsibilites just like any government official should. Very enlightening documentary...I have to say that I was furious after watching this so without the inserted humor my head may have exploded.

If it weren't so shocking, it would be a lot funnier.

I have seen this powerful and important movie. It is critical to see this as it challenges our uniformed perceptions that the UN is a force for good. Given how much money the US gives the UN we need to understand were it goes.

Not much to it. Horowitz is a Michael Moore wannabe without Moore's imagination, and his inability or unwillingness to analyze the UN's many failings seriously makes the flick demonstrably dishonest. That Horowitz is a rightwing Zionist hack adds nothing at all to the presentation. I saw it in New York last week - one of exactly 5 people in the theater. And while it could have been worse (while we are spared the paranoid Tea Party conspiracy theories of the UN, we are served instead a smug, starchy and, at this point thorougfhly discredited neo-conservative narrative, flavored with a heavy dose of Likud anti-Arabism). Happily it will sink into the obscurity it so richly deserves. Michael Moore would have done it better, funnier, and much more honestly.

By focusing only on a selection of (arguably) worst cases, the filmmakers are undermining the important work of thousands of dedicated UN staff and the crucial role the UN plays in maintaining a global platform for global issues for all governments, which enables governments to talk rather than go to war on each other.
