The first thing that appealed to me about the movie was the small town environment that it very effectively portrayed. I personally was taken right back to the township I spent a large part of my childhood in - a town which was strikingly similar to the one shown in the screen. The last time I felt like this was when I watched Manorama - six feet under. The characters seem really real, and the acting was really good. Rajat(Rohan) was very expressive even when he was silent, and Ronit fit right into his character too. The credit goes to the director to make the viewers emphasise with the characters so much. I would highly recommend this to discerning movie watchers who are open to non-mainstream plots and who wouldn't want to waste their time with most of the trash coming out of bollywood.

Rock on Bollywood! We ain't about song and dance in Switzerland anymore! Udaan summed up a perfect Bollywood weekend for me. Salaam Bombay!, Road, Movie followed by Udaan. If Bollywood can do this more consistently, we can really rock the best of cinemas. An immensely likeable starcast and a screenplay thats very engaging to say the least, a very good watch.

Rachel Saltz's review in The New York Times informs me that this is the first Indian movie in seven years to become an official selection at the Cannes film festival. Certainly one of the better Hindi movies I have seen in a while, Udaan is emotionally reminiscent of Iqbal, another hopeful movie about an adolescent boy overcoming the odds and following his dreams, despite the disapproval of his overbearing father. The father personality in this case though is a darker creature -- a tyrannical, abusive and emotionally bankrupt hard-drinker. The similarity with Iqbal even extends to the soundtrack of the movie, with some good, uplifting and hope-filled numbers, though none as memorable as "Aashayein". Newcomers like director Vikramaditya Motwane fills us with hope about a bright future for Indian cinema.

This movie truly represents the relationship between an Indian father & his son. As the title 'Udaan' suggests it's all about flying away from your inhibitions !

Very rarely do I give a 5/5 but this one is my favourite movie of the year from Bollywood. Rajat Barmecha is a rising star. A solid performance by him and Ronit Roy. Aayan Boradia is adorable. Film is a definite watch. Written beautifully by Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane and directed with passion by Motwane. Excellent music and background score by Amit Trivedi. Your heart races, cries and laughs with Rohan (Rajat Barmecha).
