Trash Humpers (2009)

Follow a small group of elderly "Peeping Toms" through the shadows and margins of an unfamiliar world. Crudely documented by the participants themselves, we follow the debased and shocking actions of a group of true sociopaths the likes of which have never been seen before. Inhabiting a world of broken dreams and beyond the limits of morality, they crash against a torn and frayed America.

As funny as it is horrific, and as beautiful as it is repulsive, Harmony Korine has crafted one of the most fully-formed (and undeniably affecting) art movies of recent years.

The home movie feel to Trash Humpers is what makes it one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen in my entire life, even with the unforgivable lack of plot. The footage feels real... it feels as if I, the viewer, am invading the privacy of the main characters. It is grimy art that for some reason I appreciate greatly. If you cannot appreciate the art of this film, then it plays out as a damn good comedy. Either way, throughout l felt angry, scared, depressed, nauseous, uncomfortable, and sympathetic. Harmony, you've done it again.

'Trash Humpers' is as expected very strange, but what i found most strange however was how engaging i found it. 3 stars from me, a truly origional and provocative piece of work.

You should know whether or not you will like this movie before you ever consider seeing it. If you decide to just take a gamble because the title is cool, you may very much miss your money. If you've seen Gummo, anything by Guisseppe Andrews, or any early John Waters, and you really liked it, this movie if for you. If you hated any of those things, keep your money and buy a sandwich. You will probably enjoy the meat between bread more than the approximately 90 minutes of stream of concious VHS tape rambling that is Trash Humpers.
