His mother quickly decides to marry the local successful businessman, Zhu Laosan, after Cao's real father finds himself out of a job. Together with his companions and partners in crime, a sympathetic tough kid (Jiu Yi) and a quirky little boy (Brother Hou), Cao does everything in his power to prevent the marriage from happening.
