A lovely look at the life of one of Star Trek's most beloved cast members.

You learn quite a bit about his activism, coming out, internment experience, and yeah, that Shatner is a total douche. Strange musical accompaniment in certain parts of the movie tho.

To be Takei is documentary about George Takei, a man most famous for his role as Sulu in Star Trek. The documentary follows Takei and his husband through their everyday lives, bringing us insight into his routine, his history and his future projects. We get to learn about his time spent in the internment camps after the attack on pearl harbour, the early years of his career, his life as a closeted gay man and his actual thoughts on William Shatner. To be Takei is a fantastic look at a man and his unique experience of life in America.

William Shatner, it must be said, comes off as an insufferable, pompous jerk. Maybe he's jealous. After all, at age 75, Takei is an openly gay Asian American with an overwhelming social media fan base, making him the one who has really gone where no man has gone before.

A pleasant documentary about George Takei and his husband. He has an inspiring life and is correctly emotional about some of his experiences while maintaining his characteristic humor. 4 stars.
