Time Chasers (1994)

Inventor Nick Miller dreams of traveling through time, of stopping war and curing humanity's problems. He invents the Transport, a time machine, to better the world. When he sells his invention to a defense contractor, the time machine is used by its evil CEO as a sinister weapon. Nick soon discovers that the future has been changed into a desolate wasteland controlled by gangs. Robertson has sold use of the Transport to anyone who wants to take advantage of knowing the normal course of history. The only way Nick can stop the destruction of the future is to erase his past. If somehow he can prevent his past-self from creating the Transport, the threat will be averted. In this pulse-pounding race through time that takes you from the future of 2041 to the Revolutionary War, Nick must risk everything to try and save the future!

Rated 7 O'Clock by Timelinks (uh?) and riffed by MST3K, this is an ultra-cheap movie from 1994 that looks as if it was made a lifetime before "Back to the Future" and is so dull it ranks 72nd in IMDb's bottom 100. Starring the uncharismatic Matthew Burch (who looks like a Weird Al Yankovic parody of Roddy Piper, without the muscle), it is a story about a guy who can fly but not drive, so rather than turn a DeLorean into a time machine, he uses his state-of-the-art Apple II to turn a Cessna into one, inviting a girl from high school into the cockpit to make out with her while travelling to the future and the past. But an evil CEO etc. My favorite MST3K comments: "So it's bicycles, hey? We accept your choice of vehicles"; "He's trying to ask himself out"; and "This was written? I don't think so."

You remember when everyone was wearing Castleton t-shirts and two different plaids? Don't watch the original, it may hurt you. Get the MST3K edition and laugh for quite some time after you finish. "Get your Johnny CEO action figure. Johnny CFO sold separately."

The fantastic locations in this film include a small airfield and what appears to be a middle school library. And mullets abound.

As seen on "Mystery Science Theater 3000," Nick Miller precedes Joe Dirt as a mullet-wearing lead character to bring no success to his movie. Not only that, this is also yet another time-traveling film that falls flat, likely due to the film's budget as small as the state of Vermont where it was filmed.

I'm convinced this movie is a parody. And its a great one with much hilarity.
