Tickets (2005)

A train travels across Italy toward Rome. On board is a professor who daydreams a conversation with a love that never was, a family of Albanian refugees who switch trains and steal a ticket, three brash Scottish soccer fans en route to a match, and a complaining widow traveling to a memorial service for her late husband who's accompanied by a community-service volunteer who's assisting her. Interactions among these Europeans turn on class and nationalism, courtesy and rudeness, and opportunities for kindness.

I found the first piece a bit too dreamy for my likes, but nevertheless, fascinating. The second piece by Iran's Abbas Kiarostami was funny and outrageous, and I truly felt sorry for her assistant. The last part of the journey was morally contemplative despite its disguise of light-heartedness. And by the end of the movie, I found myself wanting to take a train journey across Europe.

WHY was this film buried? Thanks British film council. You bloody idiots. This film is a perfect gem but was in the cinema (only one) for about a week. A shame for such a work of art!

This movie was amazing! I have my library to thank for somehow having this as one of their DVD selections because it is such a great movie.

Good, but it is one of these movies that you are unable to precise why you like it. Simple. I woder if the number of Celtic fans grew after the coming out of this movie :P

This is a marvelous character study, a terrific exercise in cinematic storytelling, and one of the year's best films.
