Mitchum is great as a film noir throwback...in Japan. Sluggish in the first half, but an excellent second half with some very tight action scenes. A thoughtful gangster film.

An absolutely impossible story line to follow is the main feature of the Yakuza. A good script cannot be saved by terrific actors nor a terrific director.

Gjensynet med denne filmen fra 1974 innfridde. Litt film noir, litt gangster film, men en god skildring av den japanske kultur og yakuza tradisjonen spesielt. Robert Mitchum er veldig fin og ogsa Ken Takakura som "Mannen som aldri smiler". Anbefales.

Loved this movie. A superb story relating to the Japanese underworld with its code of honour and respect. Good direction and some very good performances. Watch it in spite of its reviews and you wouldn't be disappointed.
