Ali's life has been recounted so many times that you'd think no one could come up with a fresh angle on it; documentary maker Bill Siegel succeeds, primarily by delving into the religious story, largely downplayed by the mainstream.

TRIALS OF ALI is a fully comprehensive look at Muhammad's religion and its relationship to the American government, and in that sense it works like a microcosm of Islam in America. However, its laser focus on this one aspect of his illustrious life gets lost whenever it stops to do some unnecessary hero worship. Overall, it's like a school room documentary: mostly interesting but supremely dry.

A great Documentary that focuses on Alis' life, not boxing career. Yes the film does talk about his boxing career and has some good clips from his fights. Mainly though it focuses on his religion, fighting America in a time of segregation, his ties to Malcom X and the honourable Elijah Muhammad, his court cases, being drafted, etc. Boxing is merely the backdrop. It shows you things people forget. We all know Ali as the Wold Champion, and his drive to succeed, but we forget about his real fights. This film shines a light on that part of his life and time.

Excelente documental que explica la historia alrededor del boxeador Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay), su contexto histórico, político, social y religioso y los enfrentamientos con la justicia de los Estados Unidos por sus creencias y convicciones a favor del pueblo afro-americano. Se basa en la conversión de Ali al Islamismo y su oposición a servir militarmente en la Guerra de Viet-Nam, aunque su status de opositor de conciencia le fuese inicialmente rechazado. Basada totalmente en hechos reales.
