The true story behind this film so tragically fascinating that Pierce takes upon himself to create atmosphere and chills, especially the trombone death.

A rare period slasher and it actually works!

very weird juxtaposition of great horror and awful comedy. even weirder that the director himself played the incongruent idiot comic relief character. one movie or two half movies? idk.

The concept has a lot of promise. Even setting aside the horror, there'a so much to explore in how communities react to danger. Unfortunately all you get are sub par genre thrills.

It's moody and the attack scenes are very well done. I'm also quite fond of the final chase and open ending. It has its moments and the omniscient narration added to the atmosphere, but the uninspired portrayal of police procedure and over abundance of misplaced slapstick humor threw me off, as did the stilted performances from almost every cast member. Imagine a very cheap, short and slightly amateurish b-movie version of Zodiac and that's what we have here. It was obviously an influence on slasher movies, particularly on Friday The 13th Part 2, but If I had to choose between the Phantom Killer from this movie and sack-head Jason I'd take sack-head Jason any day.
