In postwar Vienna, Austria, Holly Martins, a writer of pulp Westerns, arrives penniless as a guest of his childhood chum Harry Lime, only to learn he has died. Legitimately a perfect movie. I'm talking top ten material here, easily. Brilliant direction from Carol Reed, flawless screenplay, and some fantastick performances, with Joseph Cotten at the heart of it all. His love for Alida Valli, while unreturned is so honest, and the emotional soul of this film. And of Orson Welles is absoluitely incredible in his few minutes of screentime. he also has one of the greatest entrances here in screen history. I don't think I could ever praise this one enough.

Maybe one the best movies of all time! The main intrigue and the history were unique. Directing, filming, acting, music and suspense were wonderfully perfect. This "film noir" is definitely in my personal top list.

It isn't easy when you're up against the likes of Reed, writer Graham Greene, and producer David O. Selznick, but Welles still manages to dominate this 1949 film, both as an actor and as a stylistic influence. What's missing is the Welles content.

Arguably the apex of film noir, with a uniformly excellent cast, outstanding cinematography and a well-crafted narrative that provides some of cinema's most striking scenes and dialogue. Anton Karas's evocative zither score is the perfect complement. Classic.

One of the best thrillers ever made. Although the plot is very twisting and turning, the ending result is definitely worth it. Like "Casablanca", this is an easy 4 star movie for me, the chase scene at the end alone deserves much recognition. I'm not sure where it falls in my Top 100 yet, but it's definitely in there somewhere. This movie has given me a great reason to watch old films, so I can see actors like Joseph Cotten (whose looks remind me of Tom Hanks) and the great Orson Welles act.
