Beautiful, but sometimes more complex than it needs to be.

This is a beautiful film that tells some very Chinese stories using that most un-Chinese of devices, magic realism. If one doesn't mind scratching one's head and wondering what the hell is going on every fifteen minutes, "Sun Also Rises" is a great flick. Jaycee Chan is surprisingly good, and Joan Chen is smoking.

an interesting one, beautiful pictures, brilliant music, but young Chan doesn't act very well, it's made so obviouos especially when he's casted with Jian Wen and Anthony Wong Chau Sang, poor Chan.

*Whoosh* That's the sound of this Art-house drama blowing completely by me in terms of understanding. It is also possibly the most annoying movie I've ever seen, and rivals the "Wanna hear the most annoying sound in the world?" scene from Dumb and Dumber in terms of, yep, the most annoying sound sequence in the world! But unlike D&D, this one wasn't funny, just annoying to the point where I wanted to strangle the woman doing it. Murderous thoughts from a movie? Good God! Maybe this movie was good considering it elicited emotions from me! If you want to be bored and annoyed to death, go ahead and watch this. It was banned in China because it was horrid, not because of it's cultural revolution comments (that's probably a lie, but this movie was severely overrated regardless).
