Biff Grimes is desperately in love with Virginia, but his best friend Hugo marries her and manipulates Biff into becoming involved in his somewhat nefarious businesses. Hugo appears to have stolen Biff's dreams, and Biff has to deal with the realisation that having what he wants and wanting what another has can be very different things.

Men always go for that kind, the bitch. James Cagney is as electric, sharp and powerful as always. I liked this film. Also, it shows just how loose morals have become now.

Quite charming romantic comedy about realizing what you have, set in early 1900s New York. At times it's set up takes longer than serves the pace of the picture. By the end, its heartfelt message carries the day.

I have been a huge fan of Cagney movies all my life, and in many ways this may be my favorite. It is particularly appealing as a nostalgia piece, perfectly capturing the simple (albeit undoubtedly unrealistic) tone of the times in which the story occurs. If you're a nostalgia buff, this is perfect escapism entertainment.

A cute little film about manners that is easy watching but ultimately a bit of fluff. James Cagney is his usual self with charm in this story of him desiring his friends wife & life but eventually him coming to realisation that he not only had a great wife but a great life. Although the whole film was a little fluffy it was light & easy watching & I was surprised at how bland Olivia DeHavilland role was considering the wonderful performances she has done.
