This character-driven story unfolds in unexpected ways and offers something for all audiences. For the thinker, like myself, or the one who wishes to be entertained, like my spouse, the movie fulfills those wishes. Beautifully shot with great performances by the entire ensemble, this is a must-see.

with all good thrillers your left in a constant state of I've cant find my house keys. we follow Jody as she's told the the killer of her parents is being released from prison, from the off we know something isn't right. well written with shots that draw you so deep into the story you forget your not part of the family. a dark western thriller thats as smart as it is caring. casey afflict wouldn't have looked lost here. Adapting a text to the screen can be a laborious task and more often than not that task comes up short. With The Scent of Rain & Lightning the writers did an excellent job. Enjoyable film. Great film.

The Scent of Rain & Lightning is a very well made film with a powerful story to back it up, in this murder mystery thriller we have a little bit of everything, from the love story to family bonding, the brilliance of this narrative is the breathtaking acting and the rendition of the intricate characters which gives this film a twist from the usual unfoldings of its genre, one thing that sticks out is how perfectly sequenced the film is, the cuts between the flashbacks and the present were so seamless and effoertless and at time I had a hard time telling them apart. The slow-burning build-up pays off as toward the end we're rewarded with an amazing escalation of events that's both pleasing and impressive. The Scent of Rain & Lightning balances its characters and its story and ultimately that's the reason for its success.

This modern-day western noir conveys an astute directorial presence buoyed by strong performances and music and impressionistic handheld camerawork.
