There was something very moving about this movie. Diz, the River Thief, is a piece of human flotsam that washes up into the lives of some solid people, a young woman and her grandfather, who don't seem to have any illusions about what he is, yet don't close the circle against him. If you don't know any old men steeped in the Gospel, the grandfather (Tommy Cash) might not hit you like he hit me, but I've known men like this, and they do get into trouble. The area this is shot in is visually stunning.

Stunning cinematography. Excellent story. Must see!

All-around fun blend of drama / action / family genres. The most rewarding part is that ND Wilson took some gutsy risks with steering clear of the clichés for this kind of Christian film. (I can't say what without spoiling.) This gutsy-ness paid off across the board. As such the movie feels fresh without trying to be obnoxiously "original." Acting was solid for the most part. A couple were noticeably amateurs, but the headliners were really top class. Cain was especially good, and a really great female lead. Script and camera work are really topnotch, and Hells Canyon / Snake & Clearwater Rivers are staggeringly beautiful.

This movie got several good reviews not listed here (for example, Alex Duke of the Gospel Coalition) but one reason this movie is probably worth everyone seeing is the back story behind it. It was written in a weekend and went from script to the completion of filming in 10 days. They made the whole thing with only $400k. With those sorts of challenges in mind (both timing and financial) the film is quite impressive. Definitely worth checking out.

Great film, with an ending that is very suprising.
