Loved the movie! Very emotional for me. Very realistic to view this phenomenon from an economic and social standpoint.

I am impressed that somebody dared to make a zombie movie and resisted the temptation to make it a stupid horror movie. As in a lot of french films this is without humour and the dialogue is limited only to the essential lines but it's a very original idea and well made. The only problems I have with this is that there are many questions left unanswered and many topics that could have been explored but were not. Nobody seemed to be interested in how it came to be that all these dead people returned to the living and no-one asks the question about the afterlife. I guess these are questions that the filmmakers were not up to the challenge of answering.

Ambiguous as hell and almost PLODDING in it's pace, "They Came Back" nevertheless reels you in. There is great dread and unease in the idea of having to suddenly deal with a loved one whom you buried and mourned, only to mysteriously re-appear at your doorstep. Zombie-wise, there is no decomposition or gore here... just dead stares and varying states of catatonia. The score to this film is unbelievable. "They Came Back" is moody, sad, creepy, strange, only a little scary, beautiful, and very French. I couldn't look away.
