Sudan, East Africa, 1980. A team of Israeli Mossad agents plans to rescue and transfer thousands of Ethiopian Jews to Israel. To do so, and to avoid raising suspicions from the inquisitive and ruthless authorities, they establish as a cover a fake diving resort by the Red Sea.

The whole affair is so rushed and half-assed — they have Duran Duran songs on the soundtrack, years before the band released its first LP.

Interesting and timely, The Red Sea Diving Resort highlights the plight of refugees and casts those helping them in a heroic light, but it doesn’t quite deliver dramatically.

(Mauro Lanari) Chris Evans as Captain Isroamerica. Do we really need the daily dose of propaganda? Personally no, not at all. And for those who have doubts that Evans can't play better roles, I recommend "Puncture" (Kassen brothers, 2011).

American audiences typically adore “white savior movies,” but this one pushes the stereotype to such an extreme ... it’s impossible to ignore how badly the film marginalizes the courageous Ethiopian refugees about whom it purports to care so deeply.

Personally I applaud that Netflix gives an audience to many films that frankly wouldn't have achieved distribution or better opportunities to be seen but their quality control is a disaster and it seems that they're only interested in cramming their catalog in order to increase it more and more, but if they don't begin to choose in a better way which projects should be in their service, Netflix will only mean low cinematographic quality, a title that many of their films already carry. And let's be honest, with the exception of how much is expected of The Irishman, they have no other memorable film scheduled for this year. Many people will only see this film because of Chris Evans and that hardly means anything.
