The film is itself a provocation; a fascinating document of a years-long conceptual project as well as the final (or next) piece of the complicated puzzle.

John DeFore 30 May 2019

The Proposal has a life of its own, beautiful and provocative. The biggest complaint one can make is that Magid, whose previous works have involved spy agencies and police surveillance, hasn't made similar features while pursuing those projects.

Roger Moore 04 May 2019

The Proposal is serene, patient and sucks you into this quandary with skill. To her credit, Magid makes us care, even though we’re not sure what she’s got in mind or if she’s as persuasive as she thinks she is.

Barbara VanDenburgh 20 Jun 2019

The Proposal makes for a fascinating and not-a-little-morbid piece of artistic trolling.

Robert Abele 29 May 2019

It’s as absorbing as a caper, as maddening as a broken romance, and as thought-provoking as an impassioned editorial.
