(Beyond the Clouds, the Promised Place) Best Animated Film - Mainichi Film Awards 2004 Makoto Shinkai directed it very nicely, I love how he captured the scenery and characters in this movie, and love the scene involving Sayuri and Hiroki's first train ride together and the heartwarming ending... ^_^

Jesus. This director, Makoto Shinkai is just brilliant. Not Miyazaki like at all in tone, story, or narrative so the comparison is pointless. The actual story is flawed to be sure but the animation, composition, and emotions are just incredible!

I great movie that anyone can enjoy. It's a little slow-paced but in a way that enhances rather than hinders the story.

Shinkai makes another great anime with that emotional impact movies themselves lack these days. Instead of being a sci-fi movie with a romance subplot, this is a romance with a sci-fi subplot, which at times does make the narrative hard to understand and the reasons behind the actions of the characters kinda iffy, but even then, the core of the film is there and the animation is simply beautiful. A must watch for film and anime lovers.

Absolutely incredible. Another masterpiece by Makoto Shinkai. Good storyline, wonderful soundtrack and amazingly crisp beautiful animation combine to make this top notch movie. Shinkai really knows how to deliver emotional and touching anime.
