The Pit and the Pendulum (1991)

Set during the height of Spanish Inquisition. The beautiful and kind-hearted Maria is arrested as a witch when she inadvertently cries out in horror at the public whipping of a child. As Maria's husband Antonio tries to save her, Torquemada, the Grand Inquisitor, determines to punish Maria with torture for the desire she inflames in him. Loosely based on Edgar Allen Poe's classic short story.

Frightening and well acted remake. Very atmospheric but cannot touch the original classic.

This was a great old fashioned movie. Alot of fun. Whatever happen to actors when they finish their big screen events anyhow. I can't believe the sister forgot. That's what happens when you commit adultery. No wonder Nicholas was screwed up as an adult. He saw his father murder his own brother and his wife for committing adultery. :) Brilliant work Mr. Poe.

I cannot describe how awful this film is. It's just really terrible. However it does have some funny moments and stars Jeffrey Combs so it gets 1 star.

This film is based during the era of the Inquisition (Spanish Inquisition?) when church power was ruthlessly used to accuse and destroy people, there is a fair amount of violence and there is nudity, this film might be considered sexist, sexual and degrading. Essentially, a man and his wife are wrongly targeted during a public execution and imprisoned so that they might be tortured to obtain confessions (of being a witch etc.). The inquisitor is a power mad, ruthless and very immoral person, perhaps driven by a delusion of serving God. 5/10
