The Penitent Man tells the story of psychologist Dr. Jason Pyatt, a man devoted to his work - a man torn from his family. With his struggling marriage and mounting bills, Jason is at a crossroads with the life he has chosen and the life he could have. When one of his clients - the mysterious Mr. Darnell - walks into his office and paints him a repentant tale of future economic and moral collapse, Jason's eyes are forever opened. An old idea recycled in an appealing version. Good performances. Decent script. Ponderous direction and score.

While the overall plot is clear from the onset (intentionally so I'd imagine), the story is still compelling. This is not a sci-fi time travel movie, it merely uses the premises of science fiction as a backdrop to delve into human nature, regret and optimism. This was an excellent film well worth your time.

Imagine being stuck on a plane traveling across the Pacific for 14 hours with a thoroughly boring and self-absorbed person telling the story of their life in a complete monotone. That is a metaphor for my experience of this movie. Truly awful!

Great film. It is understated and not given the recognition that it deserves. The actors need to be given bigger parts to show case their talents.

This was surprisingly good. Very good, in fact. You find yourself trying to bend your mind around the possibilities of time travel as well as put yourself in Dr Pyatt's shoes - i.e. how would you respond? Great twist at the end. Must have made this on a shoe string budget as 90% of the movie is two people sitting across from each other talking.
