The Nine Lives of Fritz the Cat (1974)

Fritz, now married and a father, is desperate to escape the domestic hell he now finds himself in. Lighting up a joint, he begins to dream about his eight other lives, hoping to find one to provide a pleasant distraction. The drug-induced journeys he takes include spells as an astronaut, Hitler's psychiatrist, a courier travelling in hostile territory during a race war, and as a pupil of an Indian guru in the sewers of New York.

Some admirable political and social flourishes. It's just too bad that it doesn't look as interesting as the first, and it's not nearly as funny.

While this sequel is definitely tamer than its X-rated predecessor (This sequel is R-rated), and also inferior thanks to a lack of cohesive storytelling, I still really enjoyed this sequel and felt that for the most part it captured what made Fritz the icon of adult animation. This time this film is a satire on life in the 1970's with a stoned Fritz now married with a bitch of wife, a baby who learned to masturbate from his father, and the family also lives on welfare. To get away from his wife's nagging his stoned mind takes him into his past lives which leads him to various random situations ranging from Hitler attempting to anally-rape him, to having an encounter with gay version of Satan, to giving the wife of a shopkeeper a case of "the clap", to having to go to "The Black House" (In this film the black people have split off to form their own separate nation), and many more. Say what you will about this sequel, but I personally enjoyed it.

Thanks god my cat doesn't smoke dope. Actually, the film is just a perfect example of bad, bad humor. At least the soundtrack was groovy.
