It blatantly ignores expectations and comfort, and unexpectedly creates an impressive sense of freedom and creativity even while the plot very clearly slides out the window with every subsequent moment. All while wrapped in such arresting and astounding visuals and aesthetics that I could not help but smile just because it was happening.

A ravenous trance of corrupting beauty and sensual violence, The Neon Demon has Nicolas Winding Refn give in to his most twisted, perverted and sickening impulses so far that he transcends any sleaziness and comfort zone and creates a breathtakingly brave, feminine look into the allure of malice, corruption, cruelty and humanity's most repressed desires to consume others' or our own beauty as power. Beauty isn't everything, it's the only thing.

some genuine moments of tension, while it is hard to do something new with old themes, they did not telegraph much, nice traditional foreshadowing stuff, not for the squeamish, takes it's time but ultimately well done.

Yet slow, bizarre and a film not for the faint at heart, this film is a visual treat about the modeling industry's superficiality and dog-eat-dog attitude taken to the literal just as much as figurative senses.
