It isn't quite like watching a train wreck -- it's more perverse and anti-climactic -- but it's as hard to shake once it's passed.

McGillis, though, is the film's worst enemy. Her wooden attempts to recreate Kathleen Turner circa 1981 undermine too many scenes.

What could have been an interesting spin on film noir is torpedoed by awkward performances, flat, self-serious direction, bad narration, and pages and pages of even worse poetry. It's hard to tell which poems were intentionally bad, and which ones were just plain bad. Those poor actors.
