What the hell was I thinking when I first saw this... Still a great story, but the "magic" factor of the old men trivializes a strong social message. Redford took his Capra pills as supplied by ILM. Still enjoyed it, but even more so with the help of a few fast forwards.

This movie is about a Mexican American town that decides to fight a rich housing development that wants to build condos. Magical Realism in a movie, its great.

A lovely movie about a small town fighting to survive in the face of "progress". It has beautiful cinematography of the New Mexico landscape, a talent of Redford's that he later perfected in "A River Runs Through It". The characters are charming and the story is a sweet take on a David vs Goliath situation. There are some problems with the ending, but overall a great little movie.
