A thought provoking film about violence, and the heroes that risk their own lives to prevent it. This film is so dramatic and emotionally moving, you'd almost forget that these aren't actors and this isn't fiction. These are real people and this is their real life. First time I've ever cried during a documentary.

A powerful look at the epidemic of violence in Chicago. Director Steve James is right on the front lines of a war that Americans do their best to ignore. There are no gimmicks to be found here. Just a raw look at those doing their best to make a difference in a city beset by bedlam.

Steve James is arguably the best documentarian of this or any generation. This film is another milestone alongside 'hoop dreams' and 'stevie' - poignant yet subtle. A great immersion in inner city street politics.
