In December 2004, close-knit family Maria, Henry and their three sons begin their winter vacation in Thailand. But the day after Christmas, the idyllic holiday turns into an incomprehensible nightmare when a terrifying roar rises from the depths of the sea, followed by a wall of black water that devours everything in its path. Though Maria and her family face their darkest hour, unexpected displays of kindness and courage ameliorate their terror.

Truly compelling story of survival. to all the critics who didn't like it because of let's say "minimizing the true devastation", "ignoring the true horror of the human tragedy" - I say: muzzle it, it is but just one story, we all know how bad it was from far, far away and this movie doesn't minimize anything. I watched it with my 2 boys and it showed them that little kids can face this and manage to hang on and grow up. It gave then a good lesson how to be kind and watch each other backs and that disasters can happen we just need to know what to do.

With a story so inspiring, "The Impossible" is a heart-wrenching movie that works because of some incredibly powerful acting, not just from Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts but also newcomer Tom Holland as their oldest son. The tsunami sequence is horrifying and it will leave you devastated, almost as if you've been thrown under the waves with this family, gasping for air. Overall, the movie gets everything right, and it never feels sappy. "The Impossible" is the kind of movie that makes you glad to be alive.
