in part a sensitive study of parental desperation - and children's resilience - in the face of death, and in part a psychological thriller (with fairytale elements) told from a girl's and boy's mature yet only half-comprehending perspective.

Feels like a TV movie with its telegraphic score and low production values. Shannon and Morton make the picture.

Wow, Samantha Morton chewed some scenery in this one. Reminded me of Piper Laurie in Carrie. Lots of good stuff here, the story is pretty insidious actually and I liked it haha.

This movie popped up on my Netflix feed so I decided to check it out (mostly because of Michael Shannon) and I'm glad I did. Wow, I'm so impressed with the acting in here - especially the female protagonist and the female antagonist. I don't think I've ever seen them before or if I did I just didn't notice them but they really grabbed my attention here. I enjoyed how the plot unfolded, leading up to the suspenseful finale. Well done.

The actors performance are all excellent, and ultimately the story pays off, but it should have taken a bit less time to get itself there, so theres a few missed opportunities for tightness on the way.
