A great family film. Present meets past and mythology.

It is so cool. It is really interesting to consider that this is a Japanese 'kids' film. Most of these films have a moral linked to them, this one is "don't pollute or you'll destroy the heritage of Japan.."

A cute-ish remake of the Yokai Monsters series. Miike (!) has shifted his attention from squibs and other gore spurts to focus on CGI children's movies. Not that this was bad, it was a bit boring in spots. But it was nice to see the Yokai remade in a more mishcevious and whimsical manner. The war was more of a festival than it was the shadow march in the sky of SPOOK WARFARE. The story is silly - the spirit of all of mankind's discarded items, is transforming Yokai into junk machines with propellers, too many sharp teeth, and other whirly burly dangers. As the Kirin Rider, some small boy who mostly looks like a little girl, flies around by the power of the sword and some lightening. Mai Takahashi shows a lot of sweaty thigh and the whole movie hinges on a silly azuki beans song!

This movie has a fantastic feel to it. The talents of the director in presenting quite terrifying imagery really come in handy in this children's movie, but never get too extreme. I think the end gets a bit over the top, but definitely worth watching.
