The Grand Seduction reeks of a pleasantness that makes for a very soothing watch. The lack of character depth and the contrived plot won’t be placing it near any top ten lists, but there are far worse ways to spend two hours in a theatre these days.

This is one of the funniest films of the year. A small fishing village of a small population people try to get a doctor to sign on and stay with them as their doctor to secure a business contract. The people try to make their village likable to the doctor which is the exact opposite of what the people actually like. The cast is terrific led by Brendan Gleeson who is just hilarious. The young doctor is funny too being so dumb as he watches the village try to make him like the village. This is in a lot of ways a guys film but women will love this film as well. A few things in the film could have been written better, but this is a must see film. My grade=93%(A).

As sweet as the film can be (a burgeoning romance between Kitsch’s doctor and Liane Balaban’s hard-to-get local borders on the adorable), The Grand Seduction is also deeply cynical.

Funny, charming, and enjoyable. Some interesting new ideas. The actors' timing is spot-on, and the writing is funny - resulting in great comedy.

Fantastic little Canadian flick about a Harbour town who try to scheme a Doctor into staying long term so they can have a factory built to provide jobs. The Newfoundland scenery is breathtaking!!
