The paintings are extraordinary and the 3-D cinematography invites the viewer to get lost in every brushstroke. This is one of the few films to use the format for intellectual, even philosophical ends: the added depth parallels the deeper understanding of humanity that the paintings inspire.

The resolution proves heartfelt and touching, and if the script sometimes waxes too mystical for its own good, the film's ultimately so genuine it's hard to resist.

Leslie Felperin 19 Aug 2015

Some may find the end result a trifle predictable and too audience-pleasing in its final uplift, but for others that will be its unique selling point.

Sophie Monks Kaufman 19 Aug 2015

Were it not for the novel USP of its setting, The Forgotten Kingdom would be classifiable as entirely unoriginal.

The message here is one that any city-dwelling migrant can relate to.
