In the near future, due to a breakthrough scientific discovery by Dr. Thomas Harbor, there is now definitive proof of an afterlife. While countless people have chosen suicide to reset their existence, others try to decide what it all means. Among them is Dr. Harbor's son Will, who has arrived at his father's isolated compound with a mysterious young woman named Isla. There, they discover the strange acolytes who help Dr. Harbor with his experiments.

The Discovery poses a fascinating existential question to its audience, but doesn't quite manage to fill in a plot around it.

Unfortunately, after its fine start, this brainy slice of provocative speculative fiction slowly but surely loosens its grip on audience involvement rather than increasing it.

I thought this was really good. The ending leaves you feeling somewhat somber, and nostalgic, wondering how the themes in this movie applies to your own life. The only reason I took a star from this is because for the first hour or so there's a lot of questions presented, and not a lot of answers. The story wraps up fairly well in the end, and leaves you thinking.

The film provides the audience with a sense of curiosity, by painting a distorted picture of the human condition. Humans long for meaning in both life, and death. What makes this film so unique, is the fact that it doesn't try to give us definitive answer as to what is behind it all, but rather plays off of our own imagination. The film has no linear plot, as a means to expend a deeper meaning within itself.

This was thought provoking however at times dull. It makes you think about what happens to us after we die. The performances were above average but I liked that Jason Siegel played this role. I felt conflicted about the actual discovery and how people were responding to the event almost mixed emotions because if true would the human race respond as such? Interesting enough to elicit a lingering question which is more than most films. Above average but not great.
