With great chemistry between the duo, superb acting from both (not to mention the rest of the cast) and the beautiful ending, The Defiant Ones is emotionally resonant, deeply engaging and it takes you on a trip with your complete attention. It is a message film and pretty controversial one for its time, but it is also one of the most underrated films from the 1950s which is a shame. The Defiant Ones is an effervescent classic.

Great movie! My favorute Sidney Poitier film. Superb subtext and performances. Works on two different levels; part entertainment and part philosophical. A grand perspective into race affinity. The chain, what a great symbol for the physical and intangible connection to another race. Loved how effortless this movie ripened. A perfect film in my opinion. This film was revamped by Adam Sandler and Damon Wayans in the 90's film, Bulletproof.
