Monday, August 22, 2011 (1989) The Dead Pit HORROR This is something one might see on a zombie film coming from Italy which centers on a lunatic doctor working at an asylum doing some heinous things to it's patients until his co-worker shot him in the head and then sealing it up, continuing it's operations again on the next building 18 years later with a young lady deemd to be crazy because of her amnesia! More revelations as the film progreses with gore and not much scares! After my second viewing after many many years, this becomes less effective because of it's bad musical score and mediocre acting but the set up is quite original! 2.5 out of 4

Classic 80's schlock about a crazed doctor who tears and out plays with peoples brains before throwing them into a pit who is killed by another doctor who covers the pit up. Twenty years later, a mysterious young woman arrives to the mental hospital where the pit reopens and the ghost doctor starts taking orderlies and patients out one by one again. In the climax of the film, it turns into a crazy ass zombie movie where the people from the doctor's dead pit come out and rip everyone's brains out. It's a crazy and silly movie that is a lot of fun to watch, especially for out in the open boom mikes and terrible model settings for big action moments. The main lead chick is pretty hot and shows her titties off once and runs around in a very skimpy outfit the rest of the movie. Good debut from the underrated Brett Leonard (Lawnmower Man, Feed, Man-Thing). Classic 80's material.

The Dead Pit is one of the cult classics from the 80s. A mad scientist is doing experiments on the patients in the looney ward he?s working in. A doctor finds out and blocks him in with the dead bodies. Years later a Jane Doe shows up with no memories, but she has a link to the hospital. And when an earthquake awakens the evil doctor Jane Doe might be a link. Some great gore scenes, cheesy 80s music, and of course no 80s horror movie is ever finished without some nudity.
