Different, ambitious movie, that offers a sensual experience rather than a coherent narrative. Robin Wright is wonderful and gives the film its emotional impact.

This movie! I'm still trying to process it and pull it all together, but no matter how bizarre this animation/live action acid trip is, it kept me completely engrossed. Here is my proof of how great this film was at drawing in and maintaining my attention. I HAD TO USE THE RESTROOM THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE, but The Congress refused to let this happen. After every scene I was expecting a little bit of a lull that would give me a minute and a half to dash out, but I just couldn't do it. A crazy looking animated Danny Huston had to pop in, or colorful chaos had to break out from nowhere, or Robin Wright had to deliver a moment of emotionally desperate brilliance, forcing my bladder to the end of its capabilities. I may be a bit confused about everything that happened, but I know for damn sure it isn't because I missed anything for petty restroom needs.

WTF? In the most awesome sense possibly. The congress succeeds in creating totally awesome, strange & psychedelic images - together with a nice storyline, an interesting concept, great visual design & some unforgettable scenes.

It's a drama, it's a cartoon. It's playful and sad, satirical and moving. All these things and a chaotic visual feast as well.
