Imagine a standard-issue romantic comedy drained of humor and suffused with sincerity, and you’ll know what to expect from The Competition, a ponderous trifle that plays very much like the cinematic equivalent of a 45 RPM record spun on a turntable set at 33 1/3.

I thought this was going to be one of those sort-of-cheesy/not-realistic, but still fun-to-watch romantic comedies. If that's what you're looking for, be cautious that this movie has very awkward, clunky writing, along with some scenes that go on for too long. The relationship between the characters seems forced though I'm sure the actors did the best they could with the script. The movie has a few light-hearted chuckles, but for the most part, it's just really not a good movie.

This film is genius - Not only for taking the complex and making it simple, but for the infectiously funny way the story is told!

The will-they-won't-they of the film is a non-starter, and as such the film's climax is stripped of suspense and even the most basic of dramatic payoffs.
